Monday, December 31, 2007 Time...there's just never enough of it. I sometimes work 14 hour days and still don't get everything done. Yes, time is critical when it comes to marketing. Unless you have automated advertising sources, like Adwords, most of your promotions are going to take a fair amount of time to put together. But the cutting edge of time that I'm talking about in this article is not so much the advertising method you use and how much time it takes, but the advertising method you use and WHEN to use it. Yes, timing is everything. Okay, so what am I talking about? Well, the best way to explain it is with an example. One day, I was browsing through my email box and noticed a new promotion for a brand new product. It was hot off the shelf. I read the email, researched the product and realized that this particular product was indeed special. I knew I had to begin promoting it. I also realized that I had to jump on this quickly because pretty soon, everybody and their grandmother would be promoting it. So I developed a game plan for promoting this product, one that would have me up and running in a day. See, when you're dealing with time sensitive material, you can't waste time. So the last thing you want to do is set up an ad campaign that is going to take days to bring you traffic. You have to get out there and start spreading the word using mediums where your ad can be seen on the spot. YouTube is a great example of this. Create a quick video, upload it and you're done and there. A Squidoo lens is another great way. Create the ad, create the lens and in seconds prospects are seeing it just from browsing through the Squidoo site. This is just one aspect of being on the cutting edge of time. The key aspect is actually looking out for new things. The Internet moves at the speed of light. Years ago, when news hit, you'd first see it on the TV. Today, in many cases, you will see breaking news on the Internet fast. That's how up to the minute it is, especially with services like AOL news, for you AOL users. I sometimes see news stories way before they hit the TV and certainly before they hit the newspapers. By keeping your eyes open for the latest developments, you'll be in position to jump on any "fad" that hits. Do you have any idea how many people have made thousands of dollars on celebrity news? Like it or not, gossip is hot and it sells. Capitalizing on celebrity news is one of the easiest ways to make money online, but the key is being one of the first to jump on it.
