Can't Have Just One

I will be honest I'm probably the last person you would every think would have tattoos. So when people learn that I have tattoos they always ask me questions. Well one that I get a lot besides the ole "Did it hurt" question is, "Is it true that getting tattoos is addictive?" And my answer is always "Yes, they are additive". Of course it's not like a traditional addition to nicotine or some sort of other drug. It's more like a lot of people just get hooked on the excitement and adrenalin of getting a tattoo. It is also pretty safe to say that there is a high chance of a person who already has one tattoo will get another.

With that being said you probably want to know how many tats I have. The answer to that is two. And it would have been a lot more if I didn't have a lot more self control. I don't know how many times I would walk into my tattoo parlor to get another tattoo and walked out before I got it done. Also you probably want to know if I plan on getting any more tattoos. The answer to that is, I would love to get another one but my husband isn't too fond of the ones I have. So I'm not going to get any more out of respect to him. Now if he changes his mind I will be headed straight for my tattoo parlor to get another one.

So beware first time tattoo seekers you may very well be walking into your local tattoo parlor soon after the ink settles on your first tattoo to get another. I hope this little bit of information helps you non tattoo people understand why some people are actually covered in tattoos.

You know its funny how most people will go into a MLM/ Network marketing business backwards!

What do I mean?

Well most people will get their MLM/ Network marketing business first, then try and acquire the business and entrepreneur skills "as they go along".

The bottom line is that's like some saying "hey, I'm going to my local hospital, put on a white coat and call myself Doctor". All with the idea that I'll learn as I go along!

So what has to happen first? A plan of action or business model!

You see most MLM/Network marketing companies give you a general idea of what to do. However without a plan of your own, you're in the dark. I don't know of too many people who can make things happen in the dark.

A plan of action or business model will tell you exactly what needs to be done and in what order. This way you're spending your time more effectively, will get better and faster results and increase your chances of success.

So if you're starting a MLM/network Marketing business, get planning!

You know what they say, "Fail to plan, plan to fail".

Plan of action: Today, not tomorrow I want you to write down on a sheet of paper (not your computer) everything you think or feel you will need to get your business up and running. I.E. website, responders, domain name, hosting, marketing, etc.. It's called a "to do" list. You can add as your going along and set daily "to do's" that come to mind and will work towards the big list. I know this sounds basic, BUT YOU NEED TO START SOMEWHERE!

Until you can create a more formal plan(this should be on your to do list) this is a great way to get going and to be productive.

Setting Attainable Goals in a 'Down' Economy

Truth is, I don't think the economic cycle makes any difference in setting realistic goals - the core principles remain the same:

1. Hire people who have a track record in achieving their goals.

Perennial under-achievers don't change - hire people you can trust will always give their best.

2. Set goals early, then revise the goals regularly in the light of hard data on actual performance.

Setting goals as a fixed line in the sand, then 'turning up the volume' in an attempt to magically cause your sales people to deliver those goals is a road to nowhere. Stubborn refusal to revise goals -worse, a belief that revising goals is weakness, is simply airheaded. [See recent developments in the financial markets for examples.]

Sales goals should be reviewed monthly and reviewed (up or down) in the light of whatever new information you have.

3. Use data for 70% of the goal-setting process, intuition/judgement 30%

4. Build goals from the bottom up, not the top down.

The people on the front line know more than anyone what is achievable. If you think you can't trust them, or that they'll sandbag you, go back to point 1.

5. Reward success, penalize failure.

Too many compensation schemes favor the first and under-play the latter. There should be consequences for sloppy forecasting - being over-optimistic just to please the manager is a terrible drain an organization's success, so put penalties in place as well as rewards.

These are just as important in an 'up' economy as in a down one.

Business management combines an interesting mix of theory and practice, and it is a particularly good topic for management and entrepreneurial types to study. Finding a business management style that suits your personality and the nature of your business is both important and worthy of time investment, as being self-aware and being able to identify strengths and weaknesses of various approaches will enable more effective personal development and ultimately more effective management.

While many have their own individual business management styles, these are traditionally broadly categorized into three main classes of business management approaches.

Autocratic Management

Firstly, there is what has come to be known as the autocratic approach to management, which installs more trust in the leadership as opposed to the individual staff. This involves pulling rank and leaves employees in no doubt as to whom the management is or what decisions are being made. Rather than engaging employees within the decision making process, this business management style typically concerns businesses that require direct, effective leadership to produce results, often under pressure of working in a tough environment. Upon hearing the term autocratic, many tend to visualise a dictatorial approach to management. While that is perhaps the case, it is seldom as strict as this and it is often a necessary management style, for example in the armed forces or in a high-paced trading environment, where there is no margin for deliberation and group consideration.

Democratic Management

Alternatively, there is a business management style known as the democratic style, where employees are effectively engaged in consultation before decisions are made. While some consider this to be more motivating and more enjoyable to work under, it does nevertheless have its own disadvantages. Giving employees a say may undermine the authority of the management, and may ultimately cause inefficiencies in the decision making process. It is also time intensive, and perhaps not as effective in larger organisations with thousands of employees. While of course at a board room level this kind of decision making goes on everyday, it's one that works most effectively in slower paced business where decisions can be fully deliberated and considered.

Laissez Fair Management

An alternative to those two business management styles and the third main category is what's known as the laissez fair management style. This is by definition a more hands-off approach to management, which puts the trust of running the business within the hands of employees themselves, and allows a greater degree of autonomy than would otherwise be the case. While this is strong in creative industries, some business people find that this style of management can lead to a fragmented approach to doing business and is less organised and perhaps less professional.

Whichever business management style you liken yourself to; there are advantages and disadvantages of that approach. What's important is not that you recognise which of these categories you fall under, but rather that you're aware of the improvements that can be made to make your management more effective and efficient while also improving the relationships you share with employees at all levels of the organisation.

The problem with many distributors is they are so eager to pour out their emotions about how great their business and products are that before they know it, they've sabotaged any chance of the prospect wanting to take a look at any further information.

Well simply put, they've made this first phone conversation all about them. Believe it or not, the person on the other end of the line could not give "two hoots" about your company and products. All they are interested in is whether your offer can benefit them. So, let's dig into your arsenal of network marketing tools and come up with a simple process in establishing the prospect's why.

Network Marketing Tool - 6 Questions You Should Ask

Okay, let's look at six questions you need to ask during that all-important first conversation. These questions will give you a good idea of where the prospect is really at regarding a home -based business.

Remember, this is just an initial contact and you are not selling anything. It's all about the prospect and you are just evaluating their current situation.

1. After initial introductions always ask whether this is a good time to speak?

2. Are they still looking for a home based business or have they found one?

3. Next, you need to ask how long they have been on the search for a home-based business?

4. Have they found anything that has peaked their interest?

5. Now it's time to delve a little deeper. What is the most important thing in the prospect's life? If they had no financial restrictions what would they devote most of their time to?

Ask them what their level of desire is. Set a number you are willing to accept as a reasonable level to work with such as 6 or 7 out of 10. Any lower and you should consider whether it would be feasible to continue on with them.

Then there's the other factor...not really knowing what the prospect wants and forgetting to put themselves in their shoes. This leads to premature sales pitches, which come across as "I don't care what you want. You should take a look at this otherwise you'll be sorry."

Well, this approach will lose you most of your prospects and the ones who eventually join will be at a disadvantage from the beginning because they'll adopt your style of recruiting and run into the same attrition rate you're experiencing.

What Your Prospect Really Wants

But what about the missing piece of the puzzle many seem to overlook? Let's go back to the beginning and ask again..."Do you really know what your prospect wants? Most network marketers want the usual things, to be able to work from home and get rid of the J.O.B., financial freedom and to be able to take lots of vacations.

They are great wants but superficial. Many mistake these as their prospects wants without really stopping for a minute to find out what they really want. Here's a clue. A prospect enters your funnel and sees an opportunity that interests them. They also have long term desires such as the ones we've mentioned.

They want to know how they are going to go from start to finish and if you can't tell them then you can kiss them goodbye.

The majority of us want the same things, that's a given but most people don't know how to get them. They want to know how and that's where many network marketers fall down when trying to build a successful home business.

Thinking Like A Prospect

To be successful in network marketing, we must think like our new prospects. They are looking for someone to teach and train them. They need a system of success that they can follow, and they do not want to be "sold". Most people MUST "sell" themselves on the idea of working a home-based business or they will never accomplish much with it.

If you have to "sell" someone on working their business, you will be "selling" them over and over again just to try to get them to work. Trust me, it just isn't worth it.
